Progressive Dinner - Columbia, Tennessee
Tour the ancestral home of the 11th President of the United States, James K. Polk. Enjoy tasty appetizers in the courtyard or primitive kitchen on the grounds. Rippavilla Plantation is where you will enjoy a buffet in the beautiful double parlors of this grand home. The meal will include baked ham, fried chicken, green beans, corn pudding, sweet potatoes, rolls, iced tea, coffee and water. After the meal, a tour will begin of this magnificent antebellum mansion. Built in the 1850s by Nathaniel Cheairs, this home is noted for its beauty, history and romantic love story which broke a long family tradition. This was the site of an important breakfast of the Confederate Generals on the morning of the Battle of Franklin. In addition to enjoying this beautiful home and its furnishings, there is an exhibit of Civil War items and family pictures to enjoy. Top off the day at Elm Springs to learn about the Abraham M. Looney family who owned this home (topped off with your favorite dessert).
