Nashville is recognized around the world as a hub for healthcare and entertainment. However, few people realize our city also has deep roots in banking, which date back to 1883 when the predecessor to First American National Bank opened its first office. Like many other banks that got their start in Nashville, First American took time to get to know its customers and invest in the community, helping to make our city what it is today. Nearly 125 years later, CapStar Bank (in organization) is proud to continue this tradition of community involvement, integrity and vision.

On July 6, 2007, a group of organizers consisting of Earl Bentz, Denny Bottorff, Greg Daily, Julie Frist, Jay Turner and Toby Wilt, and a seasoned management team lead by Claire Tucker, filed a Notice of Intent to File a Charter with the Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions (TDFI). CapStar Bank (in organization) will be founded on the pillars of success which propelled the three major banks headquartered in Nashville for so many years. These Pillars are Tradition, Integrity, Vision and Community. On August 21, 2007 the TDFI approved CapStar’s Notice of Intent and authorized the organizers and management to contact potential initial investors.

The month of July is significant to the formation of banks in Nashville:

On July 6, 1883, the predecessor to First American National Bank, American National Bank was granted its charter to open its first office in Nashville, Tennessee.

On July 1, 1916 the German American Bank, which subsequently became the Commerce Union Bank, accepted its first deposit.

On July 18, 1927 the Third National Bank was chartered in Nashville.

These three banks provided the banking foundation for this community and were instrumental to the economic progress Nashville made in the 20 th century. Now it’s CapStar Bank (in organization) time to carry the torch and continue what these organizations started in the 21 st century.
